About Red Monkey Coffee

Red Monkey Coffee.com was established by father and son team François Ward and Grant Ward many years ago back when the internet age was first being established in the late 90's, we are 100% UK based. Conceived from our passion for fresh quality coffee with all its different characteristics and history, Red Monkey Coffee was born and one of the first coffee suppliers online.   We started out selling quality traditional coffees over the internet, we have now grown into a supplier of all things coffee, from cafetiere filters to technology driven automatic coffee machines. Our quality service is personal, comprehensive, we give honest & detailed advice, that's what makes people come back to us and recommend us. We also aim to provide good value for money with competitive pricing on a large range of products and with low cost delivery to the UK.

The name Red Monkey Coffee was chosen for a number of reasons, it comes partly from the Red Howler Monkey of South America where our favourite coffee comes from (Colombia), monkeys have also been known to be partial to a coffee cherry now and then. We also came up with it because we love Monkeys, Grant was born in the Year of the Monkey and so we came up with the name and Red Monkey Coffee was born.

Now here's where our name all falls into History and makes sense - The Capuchin monkeys were named after Capuchin monks because the dark fur that forms a cap on their heads and extends down in ‘side-burns’ resembles the cowl or head dress of the Capuchin priests.  Coincidentally the Cappuccino coffee drink we all know so well was also named after the Capuchin order of friars, mainly because of the colour of the same cowl they used to wear resembled the colour of the Cappuccino drink, the foam for the coffee acted like the hood of the monks and also because the monks were known for drinking lots of coffee to stay awake during long prayer sessions.  The Capuchin Monkeys got their name in 1785 well before the coffee drink was first called cappuccino in 1948. So as you can see monkeys and coffee are connected on many levels, all very logical of course, a seamless link to our name Red Monkey Coffee!

We haven't forgotten the Monkeys though, we sponsored Rachel Hevesi who did the Great North Run in aid of The Monkey Sanctuary Trust in Cornwall - www.monkeysanctuary.org they give sanctuary to rescued monkeys including Capuchin monkeys!

About Our Coffee

Our coffee arrives in its natural green bean form. It is then roasted using traditional artisan techniques, so it arrives at your door fresh ready for you to make really great coffee. All our coffee beans are high quality Arabica and come from specific regions in each of the countries that the coffee is imported from.

Our coffee is different to the coffee you can buy in the supermarkets. The pre packed low cost produce you buy off supermarket shelves can be of a lower grade and not from pure origins or as fresh. No prepackaged, vacuumed blends here, we sell the real thing, you will taste the difference.

We are environmentally friendly as possible, we recycle & reuse packaging and make sure everything is used efficiently producing as little waste as possible.

“Thank you for your interest and custom, Grant & François Ward”
